6. Donna Harrison, SAGLIF (library friends group) liaison, reported the group is reorganizing and she is the new treasurer and is receiving training from the Eastern Arizona College Small Business Development Center. The new gift shop manager, Nancy Schauman, is refocusing the way the gift shop is run and items it will carry. The group continues to provide funds for the purchase of books and other items for the library. Members also plan the monthly Meet ‘n’ Greet programs.
In January the Friends will elect new officers and present a revised constitution and by-laws.
The Friends group welcomes the addition of new members. Its next meeting is December 8 at 10:30 a.m. at the library.

7. County Library District Study Committee Update: AnnJi Craig-Wooten stated the committee has made some changes to its report for the Board of Supervisors based on the citizen input meetings in September and October. The committee is preparing a presentation of materials and a power point for the Board of Supervisors on December 19 at 8 a.m.

8. Library Director’s report: The director handed her report, the October Statistical report and the library budget report as of 10-31-2011.
The Library Friends group in September funded the new seating in the library. The individual reading chairs make for a quieter atmosphere in the library than the previous arrangement of couches. The group also funded the new much larger book drop used for books being returned when the library is not open.
The Imagination Library Book Club is in its third year. It is funded by a grant from First Things First. There are 1950 pre-school children enrolled in Graham and Greenlee Counties.
For the eighth year the library and the Title I teachers in Safford School District have partnered for a bi-monthly Family Night at the Library. Tonight is the traditional December program which includes a visit from Santa.
Several Library Friends members have been organizing monthly programs for adults on a variety of interesting topics. More programs are scheduled for the upcoming months. She praised the Library Friends for doing this.
The library has looked into having eBooks for check out. The cost is very high at $10,000 for startup. The vendor for this service received inquiries from other small libraries and notified them that maybe they could form a group and go in together on the startup costs.   So Safford, Clifton, Wickenburg, and Cave Creek are forming a consortium to be able to share the startup costs and get eBooks for the patrons. They are in the process of deciding how they will handle the buying and check out. It was suggested that future patrons of eBooks help finance the setup of their eBook account with a donation to the Friends of the Library. It is expected that the eBooks will be available by the spring.

9. Interview Potential Advisory Board Members: The Board interviewed six (6) candidates for two positions on the Board. One position was for three (3) years and other was for two (2) years. After the interviews, Morse/Griesenauer moved to recommend to the City Council for approval, Chris Goodman for a three (3) year term and Debbie Heaton for a two (2) year term. The Board passed this motion.

Next Meeting: Thursday, January 19, 2012 – other meetings March 15 and May 17, 2012
